Outcome I
To plan, implement, and evaluate a program to address issues of health, athletics, or recreation.
Artifact 1: Cost of Play from HHPS 535: Sociology of Sport and Physical Activity:
According to the university course catalog, “the purpose of the course is to examine the social institution of sport, and its consequences for American society”. This paper identifies the issues that have surfaced, especially in the United States with the expansion of club sports. With club participation being a strong indicator of success in high school sports as well as selection to collegiate sports teams, the importance of club sports could not be overstated. However on the flip side, the cost is out pricing many families who have high quality athletes but cannot afford to pay for club and travel sports for their kids.
Artifact 2: Baseball Employee Sales Analysis from HHPS 556 Sport Analytics:
According to the university course catalog, “the class will discuss the theory, development, and application of analytics in sport”. In this assignment, students were expected to look at the sales activity from individuals employed in the sales department for a Minor League Baseball team. Once the activity was assessed, students are required to decide who would be eligible for a promotion to manger. As a leader in a sport organization, it is critical to make sure that several factors are considered for promoting others and this assignment helped to give examples as to how this analysis should be done.
